🚗 Located more than 50 km from the center of Yên Minh district and nearly 70 km from Hà Giang city, Du Già was once an isolated area, connected only by the deteriorating provincial road 176B. Despite being part of the Đồng Văn Karst Plateau Global Geopark, Du Già remained off the tourist map for years, even after the plateau was recognized by UNESCO in 2010. 📜🌍

🏡 Home to over 9,400 people from 9 ethnic groups—including the Mông, Dao, Tày, and Cao Lan—Du Già relied primarily on agriculture for survival. Corn and rice were the staple crops, covering more than 2,200 hectares of farmland. The commune was also known for its cattle trading, with a lively Saturday market attracting buyers from across the highlands. 🐂🌽

📉 However, before 2017, tourism was an unfamiliar concept. Life was challenging, with the average annual income per capita barely exceeding 10 million VND (~400 USD), and poverty rates exceeding 40%. Du Già remained in a deep slumber, waiting for its moment to shine. 🌙💤

A New Dawn: Tourism Sparks Transformation 🌅✨

🏆 Recognizing the potential of tourism, local authorities identified Du Già as a key destination for ecotourism and community-based tourism in southern Yên Minh. With concerted efforts over nearly a decade, Du Già has emerged as a must-visit destination, drawing thousands of international visitors and uplifting local communities. 🚶‍♂️🏕️

🏠 From having no tourism infrastructure, Du Già now boasts 30 homestays and guesthouses, accommodating over 700 guests per night. Restaurants and travel services have flourished, enhancing visitor experiences. Between 2016 and 2020, Du Già received only 40,000 visitors, but in 2023 alone, the commune has welcomed over 52,000 guests, including 37,000 international travelers. 🌍✈️

💰 With tourism revenue exceeding 70 billion VND (~2.8 million USD), the local economy has seen remarkable growth. Jobs in hospitality, guiding, traditional performances, and local crafts have created opportunities for nearly 100 workers, earning 5–7 million VND (~200-300 USD) per month. During peak seasons, some homestay owners earn hundreds of millions of VND per month. 🏡💵

🌾 Beyond tourism, agriculture has also benefited. The growing demand for local food has encouraged the expansion of livestock farming, with nearly 10,000 cattle and 30,000 poultry now raised in the commune. The average income has increased to nearly 30 million VND (~1,200 USD) per person per year, and the poverty rate has steadily declined by 6% annually. 📈🌟

Challenges & The Need for Sustainable Growth 🛑🔍

Despite these successes, Du Già faces growing pains. Rapid tourism expansion has led to unregulated construction, with nearly 50 cases of unauthorized land conversion for homestays and guesthouses. Without a clear master plan, this could lead to environmental and legal complications. 🚧🏗️

🏞️ Recognizing these issues, in 2021, Hà Giang province approved a comprehensive tourism development plan for Du Già covering 6,923 hectares. This ambitious blueprint envisions Du Già as a “core park” for eco-tourism, herbal medicine retreats, and sustainable farm-stay experiences.
